MISSION

REDi provides Engineering design services for buildings that are resistant to natural hazards and climate change.

Be REDi.

Modern building codes focus on life-safety, not resilience – the ability of an organization to quickly recover in the aftermath of a hazardous event. We developed REDi as a stretch code to address the gaps in the traditional design approach.

REDI provides Engineering design services for buildings that allows for designs that are resistant to seismic activity. REDi is a set of prescriptive guidelines for owners, engineers, and architects to implement resilience-based design to achieve beyond-code resilience objectives. It is not an index.

The heart of the REDi framework

Resilience-based design integrates enhanced design, contingency planning, and risk verification to ensure that owners can resume business operations and provide livable conditions quickly following disaster. It is focused on continued functionality in addition to life-safety. This approach was conceived as the heart of the REDi framework.

REDI provides planning of buildings and infrastructure of buildings for preparedness for earthquakes. Originally developed to address seismic hazards facing buildings in the US, the REDi framework is equally applicable to other hazards, geographies, infrastructure types and project scales.
