UBC Vancouver

Arup was contracted by the University of British Columbia to perform a seismic engineering portfolio risk assessment (using the REDi downtime methodology) and to develop a holistic campus resilience vision for teaching, research, and housing. This vision aims to mitigate and achieve campus life safety and business continuity objectives for the university. Arup facilitated stakeholder workshop and interviews and worked with UBC staff to quantify recovery targets after future earthquakes. Arup developed a seismic real estate framework to guide university decision-making for resilience of new and existing construction, including a UBC-specific version of the REDi resilience-based design guidelines to implement design and analysis provisions for new and existing construction to satisfy the resilience vision for campus

The best-estimate of recovery time for different campus services based on building damage is shown for the 200-year earthquake event.

The recovery time for the overall campus due to building damage is shown for each of the 1000 simulations of the 200-year earthquake event
